I am so sorry to have to report that my Ph.D advisor, Prof. Ron Davidson, passed away
on May 19 around 2 am. He contracted pneumonia and suffered lung failure.
This is a sad day for me, and for Ron’s many friends and colleagues in the US and around the world. Ron was a pioneer in plasma physics and, at the same time, as kind, gentle, and humble as one can imagine.
He is the author of more than four hundred and fifty archival journal articles and books in basic and applied plasma physics, including four advanced graduate-level textbooks and research monographs. These advanced textbooks include: Physics of Intense Charged Particle Beams in High Energy Accelerators, with Hong Qin (World Scientific, 2001); Physics of Nonneutral Plasmas (Addison Wesley, 1990, reissued by World Scientific, 2001); Theory of Nonneutral Plasmas (Benjamin, 1974, reissued by Addison Wesley, 1984); and Methods in Nonlinear Plasma Theory (Academic Press, 1972).
